Sleepy Time?

Thanks to everyone for your advice on getting Emma to sleep through the night! I've tried a combination of things, and now she's consistently waking up at 12, 3, and 6am. I hope she'll start dropping these feedings one at a time, but we've begun to deal with colic the last couple days, which throws off bedtime because she'd rather cry through the evening...but then she will wake up at 1, 4, and 7am, or 2, 5, and 8am---so I guess she's still consistent... We'll get through it. Meaning me, I guess. =) My husband also used to think when he woke up in the morning that Emma had slept through the night. He learned pretty quick to not ask me that.

I took her to Notre Dame last week to visit my old co-workers. Since it was a beautiful day, I decided I had to introduce her to St. Mary's, too. It was finals week, and it felt strange seeing everyone studying while I didn't have to, but it doesn't seem like it has been long since it was me. I went into Madeleva, which was hard to recognize from the inside since it has been renovated. It's so nice! I was trying to find the Writing Center, since I used to work there, which I was told was on the first floor, but it didn't dawn on me that it was literally in the basement first floor. Is it just me, or didn't we assume the first floor was the main floor of classrooms while the basement was dark and sparse with just some offices? That seemed to have the biggest changes. It seemed so open and light.

I also went to the new classroom building. I had to find the English department, which I think took up an entire wing. I walked through the office area and saw so many names that I didn't recognize, but I did find Dr. Haigwood there grading papers, and I was able to visit with her. I also saw Max and Ted Billy in passing, but they were both meeting with other people. It was nice to enjoy the campus during finals week without any stress. So I believe it has been 7 years since I graduated....wow...the campus is so different now, and yet exactly the same. I couldn't help quickly walking through the library to see everyone studying. Now that felt exactly the same! Well, that was my little time for nostalgia.

Here are some more pictures from the past couple weeks:

Like father like daughter....the last failed attempt with the pacifier.

She's now my big 8 pound 12 ounce porker!

Curling up on daddy.

Not happy with her new fashion statement.

  2. I love hearing about your experiences of walking around Saint Mary's. I get to go back again this weekend for my lil bro's graduation from Notre Dame. It's so fun to be back up there... and you're right - isn't it weird to NOT be studying when everyone else is?!? --So weird :)
Love the pics of your little cutie. She IS getting big!! Happy SLEEPING! :)
    Love,

  3. She is so cute! I alsotry the sunglasses thing to Luca's dismay. They do look so darn cute with them!

I'm glad that some things are getting more consistent for you. Hopefully she will start dropping a nighttime feeding soon!

  4. The glasses are so cute! Maybe she'll soon love them! I think with just being consistent, Emma will start to sleep for longer stretches at night eventually. It's always the hardest thing to "train" them the difference between night and day! Love the pics of her with Andrew:)

  5. Haha- Emma is now on the same "waking" schedule as Jacob! Hopefully when she is 9-1/2 months old, she'll be sleeping much better than him...;)
Your ND/SMC trip sounds like fun! Isn't it surreal to bring your child to your college? It really has changed a lot in just 7 years- glad you got to go for a visit and see the old profs!

Those pictures are so adorable! Check out those chunky cheeks! Love the sunglasses too;)
    Love,
    C:)

  6. Love the pics and the SMC memories Carol! I can't wait to go back and visit. Believe it or not, it has been 2 years since we have been there. We just received Emma's birth announcement today; she is just too precious but I'm sure you hear that all of the time. (One more time never hurts though : > ) Like I have said before, Colten was colicky for about 4 months and didn't start sleeping consistently through the night until 10 months. In fact, he slept on me for the first 4 months. Hopefully you can find some comfort in knowing that we have been there too (by there I mean with no sleep!) Hang in there because it will get better sooner or later and in a weird way, you'll probably miss some of that cuddle time at odd hours (but you will love sleep too : > ) Can't wait for more updates and pics! Miss you guys.
