A White New Year's

We had an icy Christmas Eve, and a wet Christmas Day, so why not a really white New Year's Day? It seems crazy to want to live 13 miles away from the lake where we often get dumped on, but it's always an adventure. =) We had 22 inches of snow in our area over New Year's Day into Saturday. And it's still going...

Our german shepherd, Julian, loves the snow. He started looking like a snow dog until I could convince him to come in to let his fur melt.

This is the "before" on New Year's Day. We had no idea it would be so bad, so we were out running errands, and then had a long drive home in the Explorer in white out conditions on roads that were not yet plowed. We had just gotten home, and the Explorer (on the left) is already covered with snow. The cat is Felix, an outdoor cat who decided to stick around our home. He prefers our garage over the snow.

After....

My car is somewhere under there.

Our way out! Thankfully, Andrew is working on this plow for some friends who are out of town. I can't believe it managed to move from the yard, but it did wonders on our driveway! As did our wonderful neighbors who always bring their loader by to help.

It's a good thing I meant to spend my time off cleaning and organizing my house with all of this snow making us want to stay in. Since my in-laws moved in and out (leaving much of their stuff behind because they didn't know if they'd be back), and in the aftermath of the restaurant and all the extra stuff that was brought home after we closed it, I constantly feel like I'm dealing with a cluttered, messy home. It drives me crazy. Anyone interested in a nice set of Asian dishware? Tea cups? A crate of salt? A new bucket of soy sauce? =) I keep getting more crates to stuff, label, and store. I finally have the baby's room cleaned out, as it used to be my mother-in-law's room, and ready for us to work on it. So our holidays have been nice, quiet, and productive. Now it's back to work tomorrow, unless I get lucky and a bunch of snow gets dumped on the college where I work and they cancel...I can always hope! Happy New Year's, I hope 2010 will be a wonderful year for all of you!

  1. Wow, Carol, that's a lot of snow!! Glad you had a productive holiday season:) Wait until the baby arrives...it won't be long before you're wondering where all of the baby clutter came from:)!! Hope you're feeling well and happy 2010 to you and Andrew!

  2. Oh my gosh! That is so much snow!!! We just had a snow day on Friday but we didn't have nearly that much. I don't miss those days ; > I love your house too; I have never seen it in person but maybe this summer. Tom and I are talking about making a brief trip to the bend. We'd love to see you and Andrew and baby girl Lee if you are up for it. And I agree with Steph about the baby clutter - it takes over a house very quickly ; > Happy 2010!
