Fiery Friday

So I uploaded these pictures back in July....and I've done nothing since! I think I spend so much time on my computer at work that by the time I get home, I don't want to look at another computer. Well, here is my first July update---Emma (15 months old)---still will not let go to walk, and she slept through an "exciting" night.

Emma loves her cup, especially making goofy sounds in it, then she passes it to mom and dad to also make funny sounds.

Here's a picture of a new utility pole being put up in our neighbor's yard across the street from us. On July 15/16 (Friday night into Saturday morning), we woke up around 3am when some drunk teenagers took the curve around our house at 70mph. I don't think they turned at all because they went straight up my neighbor's bank, THROUGH the utility pole, and finally got stopped by that tree, where the car flipped upside down.

Here's another picture of them putting in a pretty new pole...

I think the crash woke Andrew, but the loud snaps that sounded like thunder and strange flashes of light woke me--that was from the power line being snapped. The live wire ended up laying on top of the car. Somehow, the 4 kids managed to crawl out of a window. I think they were lucky to be drunk and not completely aware. The wire had set fire to the car. One kid was electrocuted when he touched the door handle to try to open it for the others.

You can see our part of the downed line from my driveway in this picture.

One of the kids stumbled up our driveway and finally to our doorstep where he laid down, screaming in pain. His friends must have called someone to pick them up from the nearby party, because a car came and they left him behind. Due to another serious accident in town, it took 20 minutes for the firetrucks and police to arrive. It seemed to be another 15 before the ambulance came. By the time they put out the fire, it had melted through the gas cap, so we were lucky it didn't explode. Also, our neighbor is 86 years old with dementia, so we were worried he would walk outside with the line down across his driveway, but fortunately he became disoriented when he got dressed to check it out, and he never came out.

Fortunately, Andrew's phone had enough reception that night--we don't have good cell reception in our area. After he called the police and our neighbor's daughter, I called the boy's dad. I felt horrible having to wake them to this news. But, a couple days later the boy did come back to thank us. It sounded like the other kids also had some serious injuries, one was on bed rest and they suspected internal injuries/bleeding.

And for the next few weeks, we had the worst time with our telephone line. It would go in and out, and the line definitely went dead every time it rained. AT&T has been out several times to fix it, and I think it finally seems to be fixed....but that was our exciting and sleepless night. I'm glad we don't get a lot of that kind of excitement! :)

More to come soon.
